    VINTAGE SOVIET RUSSIAN MILITARY
    "85 mm T-34 & T-44 TANK GUN ZIS-S-53 and SHELLs" (T-34 and T-44 TANKs used during WWII)
    The ZIS-S-53 cannon was an improved version of the S-53 cannon, which, in turn, became the development of the 52-K anti-aircraft gun of 1939.
    The T-34-85 tank, with the S-53 cannon, was adopted by the Red Army by GKO decree No. 5020ss of January 23, 1944. However, the field tests of the S-53 gun, which continued in parallel with the production, revealed significant defects in its recoil devices. Plant No. 92 in Gorky was entrusted with its own efforts to carry out its revision.
    In November-December 1944, the production of this gun began under the symbol ZIS-S-53 (“ZIS” is an abbreviation of the name of the Stalin Artillery Plant No. 92, “C” is the TsAKB index). In total, 11,518 S-53 guns and 14,265 ZIS-S-53 guns were manufactured in 1944-1945. The latter were installed both on T-34-85 tanks and later on T-44 tanks.
    Barrel - monoblock, total length 4645 mm, threaded part - 3496 mm, rifling 24. Unitary loading. The shutter is wedge, vertical, semi-automatic, copy-type automation. The mass of the swinging part of the gun is 1150 kg, the mass of the recoil parts is 905 kg
