VINTAGE MEXICAN MOOR & CHRISTIAN DANCE MASK
The mask measures 10 inches in height (not including hair) x about 7 inches across at its widest point. There are holes at the side of his head for stringing cord or wire for easy hanging.
The mask is particularly well done and a comfortable fit... certainly created with the intention for wear
Man with boar brissel mustach and eyebrows, pink complexion (fair), sunburndt cheeks and forehead and red lips, which is indicitive of a Christain in the dance drama
Paint chips missing on mask edges and on the nose, consistant with age and wear.
Moros y Cristianos (Spanish: [ˈmoɾos i kɾisˈtjanos]) or Moros i Cristians (Valencian: [ˈmɔɾoz i kɾistiˈans]) literally in English Moors and Christians, is a set of festival activities which are celebrated in many towns and cities of Spain, mainly in the southern Valencian Community. According to popular tradition the festivals commemorate the battles, combats and fights between Moors (i.e. Muslims) and Christians during the period known as Reconquista (from the 8th century through the 15th century).
