Introduction:
Ammolite is the gem variety of ammonite, a fossilized shell of Placenticeras meeki and Placenticeras intercalare. Ammonites were cephalopods or squid like creatures that lived in the tropical seas during the Cretaceous period , 66 to 145 million years ago. Ammonites are composed primarily of aragonite but may also include calcite silica, pyrite or other minerals.
Colors:
Ammolite displays iridescent colors mostly in greens and reds although all the spectral colors are possible. The iridescence is due to the microstructure of the aragonite, the color originating from the light that rebounds from stacked layers of thin plates that make up the aragonite. The thicker the layers, the more reds and greens are produced; thinner layers lend to more of the blues and violets. The brightness of the colors and their iridescence is dependent on how well preserved the nacreous shell is and how fine and orderly the layers of aragonite are. The quality of polish is also a factor
Clarity:
The ammolite layer is usually quite thin, less than 1 mm. If exposed to the elements the thin ammolite layer can crack and flake and is sometimes referred to as “dragon skin” which hinders value.
Stone Sizes:
Ammonite shells may be as large as 90 cm (approx. 36 inches) in diameter but the iridescent ammonites are typically much smaller.
Localities:
-Alberta, Canada is the primary source of the material although ammolite has been found into Saskatchewan and south to Montana.
It is a beautiful stone or gem and contains other elements including Pyrite, Calcite, and Silica. The name Ammolite comes from Ammon, the Ancient Egyptian God who has the head of a ram, from its appearance. While Ammonites are found worldwide, Ammolites are found only in North America. Over the last 20 to 30 years what Feng Shui experts have found about the ammolite meaning, is that it is an influential and powerful stone with energy.
Ammolite meaning in its colors
The seven colors of the ammolite are orange, purple or mauve, blue, jade green and emerald green, yellow and red. Each color has its own meaning and brings with it its own power. That is what makes the stone so powerful and full of energy.
How to benefit from Ammolite
With different Ammolite meaning, you can get a variety of benefits from it and can either wear it or have it displayed in your office or your home. To boost its effect you should display it where the Earth Feng Shui element is the strongest so in the West, Northwest, Southwest, Center, Southeast, and East. If your Ammolite is predominantly red though it is more governed by the Fire element and so is best in the South. Red Ammolite should not be put in the North sector of your home or office.
If you wear it or carry it with you, you can absorb good energies for balance, enlightenment, health and wealth. It will keep you grounded, offer you protection and give you better energy. You can put one near your bed for prophetic dreams. Anywhere in the home will benefit from better harmony and peace and both residents and visitors will get benefits of better vitality.
