Skull with Crown - Wood Mask Hand Carved Mexican Figure Folk Art
This is a very unique skull mask, all hand carved wood and painted.
The carving features a man’s face with huge cut-out eyes and large skeletal teeth. He is wearing a thorny crown which covers the top of his head and along the sides of his face. There are lots of colors and details painted on the mask.
This piece of folk art is done in a primitive style and is in excellent condition.
The carver paid great attention to detail.
The one-of-a-kind carving measures about 10-1/4 inches in height x 6 inches across x about 2-3/4 inches in depth.
Mexicans love to create art depicting skulls and skeletons -- Day of the Dead!
This piece can easily be hung by putting fishing line or something similar through its eyes or by attaching small hooks to the back of his crown’s thorns. It can also stand up as long as it is leaning against something (wall or shelf with a backing).
Because this is handmade using natural materials, one could expect to find irregularities.
