Samuel Kelvin Peralta Sosa (born November 12, 1968) is a Dominican American former professional baseball right fielder. Starting his career with the Texas Rangers, Sosa became a member of the Chicago Cubs in 1992 and became one of the game's best hitters. Sosa hit his 400th home run in his 1,354th game and his 5,273rd at-bat, reaching this milestone quicker than any player in National League history. He is one of nine players in MLB history to hit 600 career home runs.
After a Cubs' off-day on Sept. 24, 1998, Sammy Sosa hit home run No. 66 on Sept. 25, a 6-2 loss to the Astros. While the Cubs lost, Sosa kept pace for the MLB home run lead with just two regular season games remaining.
