    Description

Revox PR-99 Semi-Professional Stereo Reel to Reel Tape Recorder, 7 ½ -15 ips, Powers On
The rugged, reliable, high performance Revox PR-99, rarer and an upgrade to the more common B-77, is an excellent overall machine. Over the years we’ve worked with a large number of professional and semi-professional machines and the PR99 is really a great machine both from a performance standpoint as well as it’s a nice machine to work with.
A perfect machine for Tape Project enthusiasts!
This is the high-speed speed version for recording and playback at 7 ½ or 15
inches per second. It is the PR-99, serial number 028404 assembled in 1986 or ’87.
It has the built-in vari-speed controller
    with a range of ± 2 half-tones
. And this deck has the desirable LED tape counter, introduced during the latter part of the PR99 production run. It also includes the road case, with a monitor. The PR-99s were the second to last off the great run for Willi Studer and Studer-Revox that begun in 1948 and ended with the C-270 series in 1991.
    Construction:
The Revox PR-99 has an aluminium die-casting for the chassis, headblock, pinch roller and mechanism. The chassis mounting points are machined for extremely tight tolerances. It featured precision three motor drive, with motors manufactured in house by Studer/Revox. Studer motors and controls are the reason why these decks are widely acknowledged to be the gentlest-handling semi-professional decks. It has three heads: separate record, play and erase heads.

Cosmetically the machine is in excellent condition as shown in the photos. It powers on, the Vu meters light up and but when play or any other button is depressed nothing happens.
The inputs and outputs are balanced XLR, considered a significant upgrade from the RCAs on the B-77.
This comes in the road case, as picture, which includes a pretty decent monitor and good protection for the machine. The road case is in pretty good shape with a few scrapes and rips.
Also, refer to the pictures, you have your choice of the standard blank metal head cover, or one with a splice jig. You chose.
Current offerings of Revox PR-99s on Ebay range from 00 to 00!
    How Does It Sound?
While we didn’t get a chance to listen to this machine, we’ve used and eventually sold 11 Revox B77s and two PR99s over the last 15 years. When listening to Tape Project tapes on the PR99, the lack of coloration is unmatched by virtually any digital or analogue medium. Also, the dynamics immediately stand out as exceptional. The large three-dimensional soundstage sounds like the best vinyl playback we’ve heard but without the background noise and colorations at the sides of the soundstage that are unavoidable with vinyl.
As usual, while it’s clear that this machine is powering up in our shop, and the capstan spins, but this machine was built in 1986 or ’87: its ~35 years old. So we can’t guarantee how well or how long it will operate so this deck is being sold “as-is for parts or repair” and we don’t offer returns
    except
if the deck does not power on (is dead on arrival).
The deck comes with an aftermarket power cord but without the hubs or reels, which are widely available on line.
Shipping will be by the best method which is usually Fedex ground, but for longer distances usually USPS or DHL. We’ll give you the options. We ship at our actual cost. The deck will be double boxed and the reel tables will be pulled and packed separately so that the lugs don’t bend or break during shipping. Its heavy, so it is expensive to ship. Over the last decade we’ve sold and shipped 10 Revox B-77s, 2 PR-99, 4 Studer A-810, plus two Tandbergs, four Teacs, … so we have a pretty good idea what we’re doing. 2200 Reviews @100% positive!
