Very Rare and 100% Original - G.C. Taft's Improved Wrench NY and Patent Applied For marked Patent 17609 June 16 1857 Improved Screw Wrench in quite nice condition just as it was found - a true Holy Grail for collectors and museums tooThis truly Ultra Rare Antique George C. Taft of Worcester MA made wrench is a scarce find, and truly a dream come true for collectors. Reproductions of this very wrench can be seen retailing online for nearly 0 and this is a true original! Made during the Solymon Merrick era, this is an extremely rare old tool. Taft was such the innovator that many of his wrench improvements were later used by L. Coes and other fine early wrench makers. It can be found elsewhere online that the original patent date of this great old wrench is believed to be May 21 1855 however we believe it to be Patent 17609 June 16 1857 as there is significant corroborating photographic evidence and documentation online. It's also said online that this exact wrench was "specifically different from the 1841 Loring Coes model". Collectors and museums can look far and wide and will simply not find another original for sale at any price. The "NY" marking makes it quite unique as well, as New York is less than an hour's drive from Worcester MA the place where this wrench is said to have been made, you please be the judge.
An extraordinarily rare one of a kind opportunity to own a true piece of wrench tool and American History!! Take a good look then make a fair offer and it'll be yours, wait and it'll be gone for sure!!
Please check the pictures very carefully for the exact age and condition - it's very nice for the age and is 100% original as it was found. It was stored lightly oiled and there is some very light surface rust as pictured, a small break / chip from the bottom jaw, and some very cool dimpling to the handle from the age, it's just over 12" long. Otherwise is it fully functional and complete - an extremely rare old tool and an amazing investment as well, as it's sure to only increase in value and rarity in the future
