It comes apart by pushing on the piece. There's a little tongue-and-groove type lock cast into the two parts to lock them together again in the correct position once they're reassembled onto the pipe. Just put the pieces onto the pipe, snap them together, and screw the reassembled nut onto the threaded piece.
