Mexican Ritual Mask Masque & Custom Display Box

Description

Ritual mask from the state of Michoacán. Carved wood with metal headpiece and hair/fur eyebrows.
Purchased in the late '70s on location in Mexico. Most of these masks are burned after their respective ceremonies; however, some of the mask-makers hold back one or two and sell them to local art dealers.
The hanging, plexiglass display case was fabricated by Soltar Plastics in West Los Angeles, California.
