Description
Handmade in the artisanal town of Patzcuaro in Michoacan region, near lake Patzcuaro. The region is well know for it's handcrafts since before the Spanish conquest in the fifteen-hundreds. The locals still produce handcrafts following the ancient traditions, but due to fears of visitors from violence and drug trafficking, the distant region has not seen many visitors and crafts are declining, however treasures can be found in houses of locals and from time to time in the local market. The mask is made of wood, is about 31cm high and has been stained in a dark shade of brown. It is a one off piece as was made by hand but closely resembles the local masks.
