    Description

    Exceptional one-of-a-kind hand-carved Mexican folk mask of el Diablo; masks like this piece were used during dances and ceremonies for over a thousand years throughout Mexico.  My great-grandmother acquired this piece while residing in San Miguel de Allende during the 1950s-1960s.  I do not know the age, though I suspect it is 19th century or older.  Since acquiring this piece, it has been stained and displayed as wall art in our home.  Mask is 12.25 inches tall; 5.125 inches wide and 4 inches deep, and hand-carved from one piece of wood.  There is slight damage to his right ear (horn), otherwise the mask is in very good condition for its age.
