. Originally based on traditional masks, designs soon evolved in the mid 1900’s, as art collectors began ordering masks that were especially made for them, thus starting the decoration mask making. The indigenous people of Guatemala and Mexico have produced extraordinary masks that show us the varied and colorful expressions of their culture. They have played an essential part in Guatemalan and Mexican ritual, their dances, drama, fertility rites, planting cycles and religious ceremonies. Measures 6” long. In overall good condition for the age of the mask.
