    Description

We have for your consideration an Akai Model GX-400D-SS tape deck recently acquired from
the estate of a local musician and composer.  It was a high-end 4-channel stereo
    unit introduced
by Akai in 1975.  Here's a short description and review from the manufacturer brochure:
    Description
The GX-400D-SS employs a 4-track system which can be used for either 4-channel or 2-channel stereo recording and playback.
4-channel stereo recording and playback requires the simultaneous use of all 4 tracks in one direction.
2-channel stereo recording and playback requires the simultaneous use of two tracks.
The first stereo recording (playback) takes place on tracks 1 and 3 and the second on tracks 2 and 4 after the reels have been inverted.
2 channel reverse playback can be accomplished by depressing the reverse button (inverting of reels by hand is not necessary).

Also included with the deck is the OE Model RC-17 Remote Control Unit which
connects to the rear of the deck and duplicates the tape transport controls so
the deck can be operated from a distance. Cable is 11 feet in length; instructions
are supplied.  A couple of other extras?  OK!  There's also an original Akai 7" take-up
reel and a custom-made acrylic cover for the deck as shown in the pictures.
You are bidding on everything you see in the photos.
All items are in excellent physical and operational condition; we dug up some old
7" reels from the archives and played them as well as making a quick audio recording.
All controls, switches and pots work smoothly as well as the transport itself.  For those
familiar with this model,  both tensioner arm switches are in working order as well...
the original owner took great care of this equipment!
Please excuse the amateur-looking pictures,  I had to use an Iphone camera which I must admit
is not my line of expertise in order to meet time requirements.  We hope to post better ones in the
future but please feel free to message us if you have any specific ones in mind that we can shoot
    for you.
Successful bidders will pay FedEx Ground shipping fees from Reno, NV 89509 unless they prefer
another carrier.  Charges will of course be determined according to distance and will include professional
packaging by the shipping company.   We will determine an accurate amount prior to submitting an
    invoice to the buyer.
Although we have done our best to describe this device as accurately and honestly as possible, it is
still almost 50 years old and we must therefore offer it for sale "AS-IS" which is usually the norm with
vintage electronics offered here on eBay.
    Please, d
o not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have before you bid... we will do
our very best to answer them as quickly and accurately as possible!
