AKAI GX-210D (1973/1977)
A four-track stereo tape deck with two tape speeds (7½ & 3¾ ips) and a seven inch reel capacity.
The transport employed a 4/8 pole self-lubricating hysteresis synchronous capstan drive motor and two eddy-current outer-rotor reel motors.
This was an auto-reverse tape-deck only with no internal amplification or speakers.
Two GX heads were used, a combined record/playback head and an erase head.

New Tapes are easily found on Ebay. Look for the brands Ampex, TDK, Sony, Basf, Maxell or Memorex. Avoid buying tapes over 1800 ft, as they are longer and thinner and can damage motors. Remember that this machine accepts tapes up to 7" inches.
Metal tapes can also be found on Ebay. Type: Metal Take up reel and look for the brands AKAI, REALISTIC, MEISTER, SONY, PIONEER, TDK and others. Always appears excellent offers.
You will be bidding on this very nice reel to reel player made by Akai in Japan.
This unit find in perfect condition. CLEAN And LUBRICATED. Heads are demagnetized.
The Audio board was completely cleaned and lubed with Deoxit D5.
It is assumed that any bidder will understand how these reel to reel recorders operate and the characteristics of recorded tape both new and old. Questions are of course welcome and encouraged as this unit can be complicated to one that is not familiar with reel recorders/players.
This deck is 45+ years old and was stored for some time. Buying vintage equipment is not the same as going to Best Buy and buying a new Sony surround receiver. That being said keep this in mind when buying.

This unit does not come with any wires to hookup....it uses standard RCA cables or a DIN connection.

THIS UNIT WAS BEEN CLEANED AND LUBED:

Completely cleaned interior / exterior
- Checked and cleaned all knobs/switches.
- Cleaned and lubricated all switches with De-Ox-It.
- Adjusted and aligned Volume section for play/record.
- Adjusted and demagnetized all heads
- Checked input/output.
- Belts were replaced.
- Decent heads. Normal wear.

When we works on a tape deck, for instance, we does not simply test it in all modes for several minutes to make certain it works. WE ACTUALLY USES THE MACHINE FOR A WEEK, playing and recording many hours of tape, and actually uses the tape machines to record from AM/FM, CD or cassette to reel to reel tape, and if any glitches or abnormalities appear during this process they are addressed and corrected and the use of the machine continues until we are
absolutely certain that the machine is ready to be sold and will not deliver any unwanted surprises to its new owner. We will not release a machine for sale until he is absolutely certain it will perform flawlessly on a consistent day-to-day basis after it is shipped.
We have already sent hundreds of devices and never had any problem. All packages are shipped fully insured via UPS or USPS.
Also, we use only New Boxes and Styrofoam plates to protect the unit from any damage.
This is strictly a deck. It does not have speakers. You must connect it to a stereo receiver or an amplifier. This machine records and plays back with excellent fidelity and frequency response.
The Tape Recorder is looking great even if it has more than 45 years and it works perfectly!
The faceplate looks great! NO scratches !
All the mechanical and electronic operations and everything works splendidly including the VU meter illumination.
Play, Reverse, Record, Fast Forward & Rewind functions run smooth and noiseless.
