Offered for your consideration...1915 Foster Rubber Co. VINTAGE Baseball Memorabilia
W. L. [Bill] JAMES, Boston Braves*
Original ~ Great Display Item
Perfect for matting and framing
With a bit of creativity items such as this Deadball Era advertisement, if matted with period cards and other collectibles, can make visually exciting displays.
This piece of memorabilia, pitching Cat's Paw cushion rubber heels, offers great graphics including a photographic image - with facsimile autograph - and endorsement of a contemporary star of the diamond.
"I'm more afraid of a slippery sidewalk than of a pair of flying spikes. So I wear Cat's Paw Rubber Heels with the Foster Friction Plug."
signed W. L. James
*Why was Bill James, you might reasonably ask, chosen to do a national endorsement? Bill's brief, 4-year major league career (37-21 won-lost log) was highlighted by his 26-7 record the year before this ad as he pitched the
Miracle Braves
to a National League pennant and 4 games to none World Series sweep of Connie Mack's White Elephants. He was on top of the baseball world - if ever so briefl!
Depending upon the collector's desires, this 8-3/4" by 11-1/2" piece (with Cat's Paw ad of 5-3/4" by 8-3/8") could be matted with T205, T206 or other contemporary cards to construct an impressive Deadball Era display.
A final note of possible interest:
the reverse side includes a 1/9 page display ad for Boston Garter (George Frost Co., Boston), various other medium size display ads and the conclusion of an article on the Growth of the five- and ten-cent stores (Woolworth, Kresge & McCrory) for the four-year period, 1912 to 1915.
