    Description

    American theologian and linguist. Partially printed document signed, "Jona Edwards.". Measures at 4.25" x 7.75". Hartford. September 12, 1779. The document reads, in part: Received of John Lawrence, Commissioner of the Loan Office for the State of Connecticut, Seventy Nine dollars and one sixth of a Dollar it being for the Interest arisen on One Continental Certificate in favor of Myself Dated 18th May 1778 to 18th May 1779 ... received at Hartford, this 13th day of September 1779 as by Endorsement (sic) on said certificate ... Jona Edwards." The son of the noted theologian of the same name, Jonathan Edwards lived with his father among the Mohegan Indians from the age of six.
